Rain Cuts A Promising Night Short

“It was always a question of not if, but when the rain would come” was the comment from Danny Reidy’s Car Owner Peter Mitchell following the latest round of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship Queensland at the Toowoomba Speedway. After qualifying in position five for the 30 lap A-Main Reidy had set up a great opportunity to capture his second main event win for the Eagle Ignition Leads supported Mitchell Motorsport Team but it wasn’t to be as the rain came just prior to the final event.

Round four of the USC Qld at Toowoomba was held on Saturday December 15th in conjunction with the “Ultimate Pink Night”, an evening to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer.
A total of 27 cars fronted for action with time trials in hot laps, followed by two heats for each driver. Danny was solid in time trials setting the eighth quickest time, however as usual the competition was extremely tight as there were multiple drivers in the 11.2 second range.

Starting from position 4 in the first heat Danny got off to a great start and quickly moved into the lead but on the entry of turn one on lap two, a burst of enthusiasm saw a mistake that dropped him to third. Despite dropping a couple of spots, it could have been a lot worse as Danny did a fantastic job to keep the car off the concrete. From that point he recovered well to claw his was back to second, snapping at the heels off the race leader as the chequered flag came out. During the heat he posted the quickest lap time of 10.9 seconds.

Starting again from position 4 again in round 2 another brilliant start saw Danny quickly move into the lead and he went on to gain valuable points for the shootout.

At the completion of the heats Danny was fourth in points, placing him in the silver shootout. Danny ultimately settled into position 5 for the 30 lap A main. With the weather closing in fast the Sprintcar racing unfortunately concluded after the B main.

“The team were certainly looking forward to the A main from our best starting position for a while. The car was probably the best it had been since we won the 50-lapper last season. Danny will now contest the Christmas New Year period in the NQ5 car, with the Q19 returning to Toowoomba for round five of the USC on February 2nd “added Peter in conclusion.
