Mitchell Motorsport got their season underway last Saturday night at Carnival of Power / Round 1 of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship Queensland at the Toowoomba Speedway. With Danny Reidy returning to pilot the #Q19 Eagle Ignition Leads / Penrite machine following his third placing in the standings last season, the team were optimistic of a strong start and they managed to walk away with a top ten result after what proved to be a tough evening.
The opening night of the six round USC QLD attracted a quality field of 32 cars with qualifying getting the season underway in hot laps. With such a competitive line-up the splits in the times were extremely close and following the session Reidy finished in 17th position but all was not well as Danny reported an issue with the powerplant.
Throughout the night the team worked overtime to change the gear ratios, the fuel pump and spark plugs in an attempt to find the issue but at the completion of the night the issue was still there.
Despite the setback Danny managed to move forward in the heats to secure a third and a second and started the final from position nine. This was a great fight back considering the position they found themselves after qualifying.
During the feature event Danny slipped as far back as twelfth on the start but he managed to work his way back to ninth as the chequered flag fell.
“It was a good result on what was a tough racetrack. Considering the gremlins, it was a very good comeback to run inside the top 10 by the end of the night. I was proud of the way that Danny and the team dug deep to get the best possible result” added Team Owner Peter Mitchell.
Danny Reidy will be back in action again this Saturday night at Parramatta in Round 1 of the USC NSW in his own car before his next appearance for the Mitchell Motorsport Team at Toowoomba on October 21, 2017.
